The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) was founded in 1962 by Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, former Chief Minister of Punjab. It was created to provide rigorous and quality medical education to students, conduct research activities to benefit the community, as well as provide high standards of medical treatment to patients. PGIMER won the 2014 Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FICCI) Healthcare Excellence Awards under the Medical Technology and Diagnostics category and the Pathology Laboratories category. PGIMER houses a variety of advancd care centers, including an Advanced Pediatric Centre, Bone Marrow Transplant Centre, Renal Transplant Centre and other centres. We currently have one pediatric oncology project at this site.

The pediatric oncology project at PGIMER started in the summer of 2009, with the support of local champion, Dr. Amita Trehan. Dr. Trehan is a trained pediatric oncologist and Professor at the Advanced Pediatrics Center. We currently support one nurse, one social worker, one data manager, and one follow up project coordinator at PGIMER.
