The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) was established in November 1983 with the objective of providing super specialty medical treatment in Bihar and redirecting patient volume from AIIMS in Delhi and PGIMER in Chandigarh. By 1990, the hospital was equipped for 1,000 beds and is continually growing in capacity to provide quality and effective medical treatment while the state of Bihar undergoes reform efforts.
