Civil Hospital was established in 1841, initially with 12 wards. The medical school was built later and in 1911, the Maternity Unit and Women and Children's Wards were constructed. The current Civil Hospital has over 2000 beds and 44 wards for inpatients. Civil Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in India and serves as a teaching college for B.J. Medical College. As part of is mission, Civil Hospital strives to provide high quality patient care and rigorous medical education for its patients and students. We currently have one maternal health project at this site.

The maternal health project at Civil Hospital began in 2013. JDF's local champion is Dr. Amiya Mehta, Professor and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. We currently support three nurse cum counselors and one data manager cum social worker at this site.
