Rural Health Care

Jan Swasthya Sahyog, Ganiyari, Raipur, Chhattisgarh

Supported Since: 2008

Site Overview
Jan Swasthya Sahyog (JSS) is a registered not-for-profit organization that strives to address part of the numerous shortcomings of rural health care in India. It was established by socially-conscious health professionals from AIIMS as a community-based healthcare model. They work in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, a rural area with difficult terrain and a large tribal population, to provide low-cost, high-quality health care to impoverished and underserved populations.

Project Overview
Jiv Daya Foundation and JSS initiated their collaboration in September 2008, with a focus on salary support for staff and supportive care services. Since the staff on the ground is dealing with a wide variety of issues, ranging from cancers, deficiencies, and communicable diseases such as tuberculosis and malaria, to animal bites and injuries, there was a great deal of need for expanding the staff’s capacity to deliver care. This is especially relevant in a remote area that does not offer a wide range of incentives for health care workers to stay long.
