Site Overview
Adyar Cancer Institute was founded in 1954 by Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy, the first woman to graduate with a medical degree in India. Based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, the Cancer Institute has developed into a state-of-the-art hospital that sees over 125,000 patients annually. The pediatric oncology division saw 360 patients in 2007-2008, prior to the initiation of the Mahesh Memorial Pediatric Ward, the first dedicated pediatric oncology block, which became active in 2009. The Ward was named in honor of a Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma patient who was treated at the Cancer Institute and passed away after a 15-year stuggle.
