Site Overview
Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences is a tertiary care teaching institution located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. It was established in 1983 and is located 15 km from the city on a 550 acre campus. Palliative care is a newly established specialty at this nationally ranked medical institution. They have reported an annual new palliative care patient volume of 450.

Project Overview
The MOU between JDF and SGPGI was executed in May 2011. The Foundation has agreed to support one dedicated doctor, one nurse, and one social worker cum data manager. The unit offers outpatient, inpatient, and home care services. In the past three years, the unit has seen a total of 1700 palliative care patients. Since palliative care is a recent development at SGPGI, JDF’s grants support for additional staff will significantly increase the volume of patients seen.
