Supported Since: 2010
Site Overview
The Regional Cancer Center of Trivandrum (RCC Trivandrum) is one of 26 Regional Cancer Centers in India, established under the National Cancer Control Program in 1981. RCC Trivandrum is a comprehensive cancer center catering specifically to the population of Kerala, but also to adjoining parts of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The Palliative Care department sees 3000 new cancer patients per year.
Project Overview
RCC Trivandrum is the Foundation’s first palliative care project, which initiated in December of 2010. The Foundation is currently supporting a physician, nurse, and social worker cum data manager along with funding for a laptop and for cell phone charges accrued from following up with patients. The addition of a dedicated palliative care team has enabled RCC to cater to a higher volume of patients suffering with pain from advanced disease. We hope that other hospitals will be able to use the RCC unit as a model for their own palliative care departments.
