Site Overview
Pallium India is a registered charitable trust founded in 2003 by Dr. M. Rajagopal. Pallium’s central mision is “to fill in gaps and cater to the needs of millions who need pain relief and palliative care,” making them an ideal partner for the Foundation. In addition to working with other centers to help start palliative care programs and mentoring new clinics, Pallium also provides training for palliative care physicians and nurses and runs its own palliative care outpatient department.
Project Overview
Signed in May 2011, the agreement between the Foundation and Pallium provides for salary support for a physician, a nurse, and a social worker cum data manager. With JDF’s support, Pallium will open an additional OPD in Trivandrum in order to expand its volume. We are also working toward implementing a National Outreach Project that will provide mentorship and training to new palliative care clinics across India.
Local Champ
Dr. M. Rajagopal is the Chairman of Pallium India and the Director of the Trivandrum Institute of Palliative Sciences. He was also one of the founders of the Institute of Palliative Medicine in Calicut. He is known as India’s “Father of Palliative Care,” and is active in organizations all across the country that advocate expansion of palliative care and wider opioid availability.
