Site Overview
Institute of Palliative Medicine at Calicut Medical College offers palliative care services for incurable patients through a network of palliative care clinics and home care programs. The medical college has an outpatient palliative care clinic. Inpatient beds are available at the Medical College campus which also provides home care programs. These palliative care services are operated by Pain and Palliative Care Society, a Non-Governmental Organization that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the government. The outpatient department currently sees over 1500 new cancer patients a year.

Project Overview
The MOU with the Institute of Palliative Medicine in Calicut, Kerala was signed in December 2010. The primary focus will be aimed towards strengthening of the existing services at the Government Medical College to improve the quality of care to cancer patients in the district. The objective of ensuring appropriate treatment for cancer patients in the district will be achieved through facilitating social and financial support to patients from various agencies and philanthropists, maintaining regular contact with patients to ensure follow up, and good symptom relief for patients needing curative and palliative care. JDF is providing two medical officers, one social worker, and one data manager.
