Site Overview
Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute was founded in 1972, and represents the successful collaboration of state and national government with non-governmental organizations. Managed jointly by the state of Gujarat and the Gujarat Cancer Society, GCRI is also a Regional Cancer Center under the National Cancer Control Program. GCRI sees over 20,000 new patients a year, and their new palliative care outpatient department, which was inaugurated in October 2010, caters to 1,000 new patients per year.

Project Overview
The collaboration between Jiv Daya Foundation and GCRI’s palliative care department began in January 2011. After seeing the high patient volume and growing need for staff support within the new palliative care services department, JDF began supporting one doctor, nurse, and social worker cum data manager. GCRI is one of the first sites to successfully begin using the India Cancer and Palliative Care Registry.
