Site Overview
Located in Ludhiana, Punjab, Christian Medical College and Hospital was recognized by the government in 1915. It was originally founded by Dr. Edith Mary Brown in 1894 as the first medical college in Asia for women. CMC, Ludhiana is a tertiary care center that has almost 600 beds and serves a wide array of patients from all over Northern India. Since 1953, over 2,000 MBBS candidates have graduated from CMC. The palliative care department sees almost 1,000 cases per year.
Project Overview
Through JDF’s strong advisory board relationships, the project execution at CMC, Ludhiana was catalyzed. The MOU was officially signed in July 2011. CMC, Ludhiana mainly serves patients coming from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttar Pradesh, along with a few other parts of Northern India. Currently there are 5 doctors and 4 nurses that are administering palliative care and JDF hopes to help increase the bandwidth by offering dedicated staff of one doctor, one nurse, and one social worker cum data manager.
