Neonatal and Maternal Health

Jiv Daya Foundation has identified neonatal and maternal care as a significant area of need for future intervention. In India, the combination of a growing population and a lack of crucial resources in labor and delivery wards has resulted in high neonatal and maternal mortality rates. Many of these deaths would otherwise be preventable were it not for the shortage of critical equipment, medication, and properly trained staff. Therefore, Jiv Daya Foundation desires to reduce the neonatal and maternal mortality rates by strengthening quality of and access to specialized neonatal and maternal care. Through the provision of trained staff and the identification of key intervention areas, Jiv Daya hopes to make a measurable impact on the state of neonatal and maternal care in India.

Jiv Daya Foundation will focus efforts on urban areas where hospitals report thousands of deliveries annually. The Foundation will target specific, preventable causes of neonatal mortality including sepsis, low birth weight, and asphyxia. In addition, the Foundation will design interventions based on the leading causes of maternal mortality and/or morbidity in order to preserve lives and enhance quality of life for both mother and child.
