Education & Local Giving
The Foundation believes that each child has the right to education and strives to remove barriers impeding children from finding the path to success. Studies show that disadvantaged students in the first grade have only half the vocabulary of advantaged students in the first grade. JDF has been supporting schools in India for years, but the team recently decided to begin finding catalytic ways to impact schools locally as well.
Through the Kindle in Classrooms Program, the Foundation seeks to improve reading levels and vocabularies of at-risk, low-performing students by at least one grade level per year and to increase students’ exposure to and use of technology. The Kindles provided will also serve to expand school libraries and can be used as teaching aids for the teachers involved in the program.
