Amputee Assistance
JDF’s efforts to develop an initiative aimed at amputee assistance were inspired by the overwhelming numbers of amputees in India living without the means to pursue an independent life. Every day, car and train accidents, birth conditions, and other outside forces result in the loss of limbs, and consequently the loss of the ability to live and work independently. Though it is difficult to track specific numbers, estimates suggest that over 6 million individuals in India suffer from a movement disability. Additionally, many from lower socioeconomic segments of society, who are more likely to be affected by this phenomenon due to the rigors and conditions of their daily lives, have little access to affordable care, and with no option to earn a living other than to solicit the charity of others. The Foundation desires to remedy this unfortunate situation by coordinating resources and manpower in order to optimize affordable access to prosthetic and orthotic aids for all who need them.
